Around the turn of the century, it
seemed at one point that Fatboy Slim (AKA Norman Cook) would
be the first superstar DJ. While he reached an incredible level of
success Stateside, it paled in comparison to his European
achievements. Hey, a dance sequence to the tune of "The
Rockafeller Skank" in 1999's She's All That can only take
you so far.
But when Cook's music wasn't popping up in teen
comedies, he made sure to punch it up with memorable visuals. For
instance, his video for "Praise You" featured director Spike
Jonze flanked by reject dancers doing an interpretation of the track
outside a California movie theater. And "Weapon of Choice" had actor Christopher Walken dancing
and flying around in an empty hotel lobby. But
these days, Cook's mainstream output hasn't been as steady, having not
released a proper solo studio album since 2004's Palookaville.
Still, that shouldn't deter you from
partying with the big beat pioneer New Year's Eve at Arkadia. The $200 general admission ticket might
be a deal breaker but otherwise Cook is guaranteed to help you usher
in the new year properly. Basketball player turned DJ Rony Seikaly
will also take a turn at the decks. And if you need to party like
you've never heard the word recession, table packages range
from $2,500 to $15,000.
