El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico has been dubbed La Universidad de la Salsa (The University of Salsa) for a reason.  QuiGranCombo.jpgte simply, because they're an institution.   They've released over 40 albums throughout the course of their 47 years and their alumnus has ever been a who's who of standouts in the genre.

Hits like "Brujeria", "Timbalero" and of course, "No Hay Cama Pa Tanta Gente" are staples, and the group has continued to produce top notch rompe caderas (hip busters) well into their silver years.  Their 2002 release 40 Aniversario (40th Anniversary) earned them a Latin Grammy for Best Tropical Album and Arroz Con Habichuela (Rice and Peas) won them a Latin Grammy for Best Salsa Album in the 2007 awards.

Needless to say, when El Gran Combo comes to town, it's not to be missed.  Be sure to check them out when they perform this Saturday at Club 90 Degree.  And you may want to preemptively schedule a hip replacement for the following Monday.

El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico will be performing live at 90 Degree on Saturday, April 18th.   You can purchase tickets here.
