At some point along the way, I know I've expressed that female fronted bands hold a special place in my heart, contrary to what my wife may believe (just because I refuse to listen to her Sarah McLachlan albums!).
Let's face it, chicks who can kick ass onstage just straight up kick ass. We've got a couple of perfect homegrown examples in Radioboxer's Vanne Dazza and Huma Rojo's Damaris Vicke.
Maybe they earn a greater respect for taking charge of a position typically dominated by men. Or maybe it's the baser part of me that just prefers seeing girls whip their hair around to watching a dude do it. Who knows?
Whatever the case, tonight at Transit Lounge, not one but two groups vocally fueled by girl power will be performing live. Crimson's been around for some four years or so now, comprising a bevy of musicians straight from the U's School of Music.
Their tight, cohesive sound exhibits their technical proficiency. Vocalist Elisa Mendez fronts the group, joined by lead guitarist Evan Lamb, keyboardist Mike Silver, bassist Alex Hoyt, rhythm guitarist Dave Torre and drummed Brian Lange.
Also on the agenda, Addax. This group, led by one Laura Barry, dropped Be The Victim back in '08, but has a couple of new tracks out in "The Brightest Green" and "After My Travels."
Laura and guitarists Omar Williams and Josh Rohe, bassist Eddy Davis and drummer Carlos Paguaga have been playing together since '03, and it shows. They have an incredibly polished, ready-for-radio alt rock sound. They even repped FIU on MTVUs' Best Music on Campus.
