Still reeling from all the tragic losses the local punk rock scene suffered during 2010, this year opened with another shot of pain when esteemed scenester Jose "Boner" Faria passed away in a vehicular accident January 8.
He had not resided in South Florida for some time. But he certainly left an indelible mark on many members of the scene. And while I wouldn't want to paint a picture of aggressiveness, Boner most certainly stood for "having your back" and the happy memories far outweigh the negatives.
Perhaps Boner's greatest contribution, though, was his son Harley. And Miami's locals -- including M66, Paper Friends, the Sex Prophets -- have bound together to raise money for him in this difficult time. Also, longtime friend DJ Frankie Pointless will be providing the sounds. And is there a more fitting place to hold this memorial than Churchill's, the very venue where Boner spent so many nights? I can't think of any ... Except maybe that old punk picnic spot where the guy once set a couch on fire.
