If one good thing has come from globalization -- and no, it's not having McDonald's in every corner of the planet -- it's the cross-pollination of world sounds and electronica.
From Gotan Project's fusion of tango and breakbeats and Kruder & Dorfmeister's dub bossa nova, to the Hindustiani IDM of Tabla Beat Science, there are myriad international artists jumping the borders, blurring the lines, and bringing them into the 21st century via electronic bleeps and bloops.
Even Latin America has started exporting its own mashup of styles: electronic cumbia, salsa, and Afrobeat infusions. And this city wouldn't be Miami if it didn't have a night dedicated to Latin-infused EDM. Hence, the Electric Pickle's new monthly "Bass Pal Baile" party.
The November 13 launch party will feature a special guest lineup including DJs Kiko de Gallo and Mr. Pauer and headlined by Coba Soundsystem, which is the DJ duo component of Latin Grammy-nominated Peruvian supergroup Novalima. They specialize in a piquant blend of tropical house, dub and Afro-Latin beats. Perfect for turning up your body heat on a chilly fall night.
