The United States of America is about to turn 237 years old, triggering a wave of quirky traditions like the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Competition in Coney Island and inappropriate groping at backyard barbecues across the nation.

In a city as sexy as Miami, however, the celebration's a little different.

Just as the founding fathers dreamed, the Big Mango will observe the Fourth of July with a ton of booze, teeny bikinis, and heavy bass drops at the inaugural Brickell Independence Music and Arts Festival Pool Party at Finnegan's River this weekend.

"We're working as a team of DJs and promoters with [local label] Gigabeat Records to showcase local talent and bring everyone together to enjoy our beautiful country and its independence," says local DJ Metrokz, just one of the jocks who'll be on the decks.

"There is a lot of great talent and artists in Miami, and it would be great for everyone to work together to make Miami a greater city," he says. "Love, music, and art create positive energy."

Love, music, and art also trigger booty shaking. And if Miami were to secede and claim independence, Metrokz's already got an anthem in mind.

"Hialeah Sound System [would compose it]," he says. "And it'd be somewhere between a BPM that when played on vinyl can be house at 128 BPMs, or Miami Style Break Beats when played on 45 BPMs."

Take that, Francis Scott Key.

Brickell Independence Music and Arts Festival Pool Party. Saturday, July 6. Finnegan's River, 401 SW Third Ave., Miami. The party starts at 1 p.m. and admission costs $10 before 4 p.m., $20 after. Call 305-285-3030 or visit finnegansriver.com.
