Channeling the spirit of Paul Simon circa 1972, Lafayette quintent Givers proved that American music is world music with its debut album, In Light, masterfully blending elements of African rhythms, Cajun synth, Chinese harps, and 1950s pop vocals.

For Crossfade, In Light became one of the go-to albums of 2011, the lingering soundtrack of nearly every barbecue, get-together, and road trip.

When Givers earned an opening spot on Dirty Projectors' tour earlier this year, the Louisiana fivesome became the blogosphere's latest buzz-worthy band. The group often stole the show with its spirited stage presence, instrument swapping, and all-around positive vibes.

Let's hope that's still the case when Givers play Bardot next month.
