UPDATE The police have revealed that cocaine was found in Alex Omes' condo after his death.

Family, friends, and fellow dance music lovers are preparing to say goodbye to Alex Omes.

Last week, the Ultra Music Festival cofounder and Miami nightlife icon was found dead at home after failing to show for a court date related to his lawsuit against Ultra, the electronic dance music fest that he helped launch with Russell Faibisch in 1999 before being forced out by his partners in 2010.

His death was a shock to thousands upon thousands. Omes was only 43. He leaves behind his brother, Carlos, and his 12-year-old son, Joshua, as well as ex-wife Karie Omes.

The memorial service will be held this Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Miami Beach. The public is welcome.

"St. Patrick's is where Alex would start each and every day," Karie Omes tells New Times. "It is also where Joshua was baptized."

A gathering of remembrance is also being planned. It will take place after the church ceremony at a still to-be-determined venue.

"Following the service," Alex's ex-wife says, "there will be a location for final words and memories that any and all who would like to share."

Rather than flowers or other tokens of condolence, friends and family have requested that donations be made to a (GiveForward.com fund set up to benefit Omes' son, Joshua. The money collected will "go directly," the fundraiser page reads, "to assist in helping raise Joshua and provide for his living and educational needs."
