Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. All work and no play makes Todd a dull boy. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town..

I don't know how many times my Chimpanzee intern Todd has to write this before people finally get the message. Miami has one of the top three Book Fairs in the country, a book institution (to call it a store is demeaning) in Books & Books that rivals any in the world, its own Book review, a diverse mix of crime, lit fiction and historical novelists, great poets, two top flight MFA programs, and a nonfiction tradition that runs as deep as the Miami Beach flood waters. Not to mention that our literary tradition spans across several languages.

Tonight (Thursday, 6/18/09), WLRN's fantastic new show "Under the Sun" takes a closer look at the Miami literary scene during a live event at Books & Books Coral Gables (265 Aragon Ave.) to celebrate the airing of their third episode.

Starting at 8pm sharp, hosts Dan Grech and Alicia Zuckerman will take you inside what's happening right now among the Magic City's bookish avant-garde. The event features special un-aired content, such as a reading by emerging poet Yaddyra Peralta and an appearance by The Poem Depot, a live store where you can commision a poem on a topic of your choosing, composed on the spot on manual typewriters by the Miami Poetry Collective. (Todd's note: My boss P. Scott is the organizer of the well-intentioned nerds who do this, and yes, his shameless self-promotion makes me want to puke up my chocolate-covered bananas.)

Hey, what are you doing, Todd? Back to work, you dirty ape!

Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book town. Miami is a book...
