Where to See the 2014 Oscar-Nominated Films in Miami

The 2014 Oscar nominations were announced yesterday, and if you're a born-and-raised Miamian, you're justifiably pissed. No love for local actor Oscar Isaac of Inside Llewyn Davis? Go home, Academy, you're drunk.

It's enough to make you want to quit this awards season altogether. But if you're a real movie lover, saying you're going to boycott this year's Oscars is like threatening to move to Canada if another Bush gets elected to the presidency: It's a nice thought in theory, but everyone knows you're not actually going to do it.

So you might as well be prepared for the Academy Awards this year. Here's where you can still find the nominated films on screens in Miami, streaming online, on DVD, and more.

At the Cineplex

Most of the major award nominees are in mainstream theaters now, because Hollywood knows how to play this game. Here in Miami, you can catch the following at your local cineplex:

At the Art Houses

Many of this year's nominated films (especially the foreign ones) rolled through Miami's indie theaters earlier this year. But Miami Beach Cinematheque still has a few playing on its screens.

• Broken Circle Breakdown (Miami Beach Cinematheque, Jan. 18-22)
• The Great Beauty (Miami Beach Cinematheque, Jan. 17, 23, and 26, Feb. 1-2)

Miami Beach Cinematheque also usually screens two programs of Oscar-nominated short films each year as well: live action and animated. Showtimes for that series haven't yet been announced, but we'll keep you posted.

Streaming Online

There are almost as many ways to watch movies online these days as there are Oscar-nominated films. Here, we've stuck to the main ones: Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Redbox Instant, and YouTube.
