This weekend is like the Art Basel of bikinis. It's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, when all the New York fashionista folk come to Miami and showcase next year's swim lines and help a company sell cars.
But say you have a normal job, an eating disorder, an aversion to corporate sponsorship, or can only afford the bathing suits sold at Costco. It's cool. This weekend has plenty for you to do too. In fact, this weekend boasts about three times more worthwhile events than the past two weeks.
A Brazilian opens an exhibit of participatory art at Miami Art Museum, there's plenty of theaterics on Miami's stages, and then there's, wait for it, Sade.

Mod Swim: If you're not clutching a VIP access badge, then you probably
won't get into the myriad of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim shows. For the
common people, there are a few just-as-good runways show like Mod at the Sagamore Hotel. It starts tonight and runs through Sunday.
- Sade: This is no ordinary love. No ordinary love. This is Sade love, and it's coming to Broward's BankAtlantic Center.
- See Jane Run!: Actors' Playhouse opens See Jane Run!, a funny/touching
look at what it feels like for a girl, ahem, we mean a woman. Look for
our review tomorrow morning.
- The Pop Up: Graffiti Gone Global has exhibited the best in street art
during Art Basel. Now they've culled a retrospective of their artists
for The Pop Up at ArtCenter/South Florida. Read more on it here.
- Gomez Ain't Home and Morticia Wants to Get Down!!: Full moon tonight! So
get spooky with The End with this film/music/art event. "Necropolis"
will screen, DJs will spin, and there will be installations by Gyr,
Sleeper, Emmett Moore, and a performance by Cat Dove and Kyle Bryce
Chapman.
Saturday
- Mission Impossible: Head to the Little River Yacht Club to catch artists spying on each other. Hear about the project from the curator, Autumn Casey, here.
- Passione: Barton Fink, we mean John Turturro, made a documentary/music
video montage of the tunes of Naples, Italy. See it Saturday at the
Tower Theater. Trailer above.
- A Day Like Any Other: Miami Art Museum opens "A Day Like Any Other" on
Saturday with an artist talk by Brazil's Rivane Neuenschwander and an
opening reception. A police sketch artist will be onsite to recreate the
mug of your first love.
