Snag Some Free Comics During Free Comic Book Day

With the release of the second installment in the Avengers films this week and newly released photos of the upcoming Suicide Squad, superheroes are on the forefront of everyone’s minds. But many fans forget that these pumped-up crime fighters are not the manifestation of Hollywood filmmakers, rather their humble origins begin as stories found in comic books.

And in order to honor the great pop culture influence that is comic books, every year, on the first Saturday in May, comic book stores around the globe unite for Free Comic Book Day. That’s right, comic book shops hand out free comics to any person that walks into their store.

Do you like comic books? Are you interested in expanding your mind and cultivating a new love for graphic novels? Do you like free things?

You need only answer “yes” to one of the above questions to qualify.

Here’s where you can celebrate Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) this Saturday and get your geek on:

Mac’s Comics & Collectibles 
2678 SW 87th Ave., Miami
The pint-sized store is celebrating FCBD by opening their doors extra early at 8 a.m. on Saturday and handing out a Gotham canvas tote to the first 400 people through their doors. Plus, if you RSVP via their Facebook page, you can be entered to win a complete set of their 2015 Free Comic Book Day Gold sponsor books. Sounds fancy.

Tate’s Comics
4566 N. University Dr., Lauderhill
Tate’s isn’t holding anything back when it comes to FCBD. At their Lauderhill location, the tent is going up bright and early in the parking lot and guests can expect a plethora of cosplayers strutting their stuff as well as comic book artists and creators. Plus, take home not one, not two, but up to five free comics from their list of available titles!

Zaldiva Comics
331 E. Commercial Blvd., Oakland Park
FCBD is not only about the free stuff, but it’s about the guest comic book heroes that come out to show support. And by “comic book hero” we mean one of the creators or artists behind the comic, because let’s face it, there would be no story without them. At Zaldiva on Saturday, Stephen Sadowski, a guest artist at Marvel and DC Comics, will be doing some free signings. There will also be three free comics per person, raffles and prizes, and even an opportunity to adopt a fuzzy pet with the Good Karma Pet Rescue participating at the event.

Past Present Future Comics

PPF Comics is also giving away five free comics to guests just for walking in, but they’re also planning a Megatron-sized event. There will be trivia contests, raffles, and tons of professional cosplayers throughout the day and each location will feature a different comic book hero guest signing autographs. Meet the legendary Jose Delbo (Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Superman, Batmand and Transformers), Mervyn McKoy, Vinnie Tartamella, or even take your picture with one of the 501st Legion members.
