Last week the International Association of Art Critics (AICA-USA) announced their nominees for their 2014 awards. The AICA-USA's awards are meant to honor the best of American visual art, from museum exhibitions to performances, gallery shows and more. This year, Miami's own Pérez Art Museum Miami was among the impressive list of nominees.

PAMM's exhbition, "Beatriz Milhazes: Jardim Botânico," was among the nominees for Best Monographic Museum Show. The exhibition was a major accomplishment for PAMM, though Milhazes has been popular for the last few decades in Latin America and Europe, "Jardim Botânico" was the first major survey of her work in the United States.
After the exhibition's debut, New Times wrote:
It's hard to think of an artist, female or male, more deserving of the honor. Milhazes boasts a lengthy art career ("Jardim Botânico" follows just the most recent 25 years), as well as a status as one of the highest earning female artists in the world. In 2008, a Buenos Aires collector paid $1 million for one of her "painting collages," created using a paint transfer method invented by the artist herself. That puts her in a small club of women who've "broken the million-dollar mark," according to Vogue.
PAMM finds itself among some stiff competition. Other museums nominated in the category include: Art Institute of Chicago and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
In addition to PAMM's nomination, artist Ryan McNamara's Art Basel performance, "MEEM 4 MIAMI: A Story Ballet About the Internet," was nominated in the Best Time-Based Format category. McNamara's piece was commissioned by New York-based Performa, but it was staged in Miami Grand Theater with production support from YoungArts.
The nearly 400 members of AICA-USA will cast ballots for first and second place later this month.
