You can stop turning tricks to buy your resin and tempura paint. The Miami New Times wants to give deserving artists some cash. Yes, we're still striving for that Utopian society where we all wear seashell brassieres and use the barter system. But in the meantime, making art ain't easy without some dough to spend. So, for the second year, we're giving away $4,500 in genius grants to independent Miami artists.
Last year, we gave a wad of sweaty bills to MasterMind 2010 winners Lucas Leyva (Borscht Film Festival), Jen Stark, Susan Lee Chung, and Carson Kievman (Little Stage Theater). Keep reading to find out how to apply for a MasterMind 2011 award.
This year we're handing out three awards of $1,500 in each of the following categories:
1. Visual (Fine arts i.e., painting, drawing, sculpture, visual installations)
2. Narrative (Film, theater, poetry, performance art)
3. Sound (Music, sound installations)
