It’s no surprise that Miami's art scene is thriving. If the galleries that dot Wynwood and Little Haiti, the art deco visage of South Beach, and the annual pilgrimage of artists and collectors to Art Basel aren’t proof enough, consider the wealth of innovative and imaginative local artists helping to fuel our city’s rich reputation. Case in point: This Labor Day weekend, a new exhibition, dubbed “Lit Getti,” will shine a spotlight on ten exceptional, young, local artists.

“The entire concept for the exhibit happened rather organically and out of the blue,” event organizer Samir Vasquez of Albeit Productions explains. “I was approached by my dear friend, artist Robbie81, about setting up an art show for a few local, well-known artists. I immediately got onboard with the idea after seeing the amount of talent that was available to participate.”

An artist himself, Vasquez knew exactly whom he wanted to include. “I grew up surrounded with like-minded individuals,” he reflects. “This particular group of artists is on the cusp of something special. They all bring something new and current to the table and provide a sincere representation of the talent that Miami has to offer.”

Indeed, each of the participating artists — Lofty305, Moral, Sebastian Ruiz, Armani Love, Robbie81, Freebase, Ruben Slikk, Marlon Preuess, Nicole Dixon, and Ticoe — brings a unique style and perspective to the mix. As some of their handles suggest, they boast a streetwise credibility borne from graffiti, rap, and hip-hop culture that’s been grafted to a kind of modern impressionism, one that pushes the boundaries in imaginative and often insurgent ways. Bold colors, unusual imagery, and tropical flourishes add an extra edge that stimulates the senses.

Now, having secured sponsorship from Red Bull, Vasquez hopes the event will be a catalyst for future exhibitions showcasing South Florida talent.

“'Lit Getti' is a cheesy way of saying, ‘Awesome, get together,’" Vasquez explains. “I truly believe that we need more platforms like this for local artists to communicate and share their visual innovations.”
