American Apparel isn't the only big name selling artist-designed t-shirts during Art Basel this year. Life Is Art, a nonprofit dedicated to support the arts in South Florida, will announce the winner of its t-shirt design contest at an event kicking off Miami Art Week on Dec. 2 at Cafe Babbo.
The artist behind the winning design will get a lot more than just the joy of seeing their work on the backs of arty Basel-goers -- his/her work will be the centerpiece of an entertainment-paced party kicking off Miami Art Week, and will score a prize of $500. Art lovers can see it all go down -- along with performances by Miami musicians, artists, poets and more -- for half off with today's Voice Daily Deal.
The Life Is Art party combines an eclectic mix of Miami creatives, from a performance by the band Pocket of Lollipops to a fire show by Prince Aderele to spoken word poetry by Renda Writer. It'll also get your art juices flowing in time for the return of Art Basel, with interactive exhibits by seven area artists, including Chris Riggs, Nicole Malcolm, and Oscar Fuentes.
And like any respectable Art Basel party, there's plenty of booze. Nine different companies will be on hand providing refreshments, including El Dorado Rum, Iceberg Vodka, Cockspur Rum, Casa Panza, Divino Ceviche, El Cristo Restaurant, Freshly Squeezed Massages, World of Beer Midtown, and Mad Chiller.
