Pop quiz, hot shot. Two independent film events, one night (Thursday, April 9). What do you do?

Choices after the jump.

1. The premiere of local filmmaker Fro Rojas's new short film, Inventing Kin. His previous effort, Pencil Fighting: The Life and Times of Team Balderdash, was a very funny aesthetic cocktail one part Anderson's Bottle Rocket, one part Jeunet's Amelie, and one part Kanew's Revenge of the Nerds. Check out the trailer below for Inventing Kin, which plays at the Bill Cosford Cinema on the University of Miami campus at 8 p.m. Admission is free. See the New Times calendar for more info.

2. A live DVD commentary of the film 88 Minutes by Hollywood producer Randall Emmett, a Miami native who's worked with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Nicholas Cage, Sylvester Stallone, etc. Basically, he's a pretty big player who'll be dishing out industry secrets and funny stories in person -- all in all, a very unique event coordinated by the guys over at Miami World Cinema Center, a nonprofit dedicated to producing new independent films in Miami. Admission is $22, every dollar of which gets matched by the Knight Foundation, so your participation directly contributes to more local film production. Gusman Center, downtown Miami, 7:30 p.m.

So Jack, what do you do? What do you do?
