There are many wonderful things that make Haulover Park, it's undoubtedly Miami's most unique and memorable park. Many things.

One that probably doesn't come immediately to mind is the park's welcoming dog policy; perfect for any Magic City dog lover who is looking to grab some beach time while getting your best friend some much-needed exercise. Haulover has long had a large dog park where Miami's pups can get to know each other and blow off some steam. But earlier this year the park became even more dog-friendly when it launched a "Dog Beach Days" program that lets hot dogs take a cool dip in the ocean.

"Dog Beach Days" was so popular that the park has expanded it to seven days a week until Labor Day. Dogs can take a swim between 8 a.m.- 3 p.m.  The space Lifeguard Towers #2 and #3, directly across from the park’s 3.3-acre dog park, is reserved for frolicking puppies until the holiday weekend. So if you're looking for some peace and quiet sans dog, make sure to avoid that area.

After the Labor Day weekend — which ends on Monday, September 7— the area will return to its normal puppy play time: Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Miami-Dade Parks Director Jack Kardys' encourages dog owners to take advantage of the extended hours and enjoy the final days of summer vacation. "Running and playing in the sand and surf is another great way for both people and their dogs to bond and be active outdoors," Kardys said in a statement.

So get out there and let your dog frolic in the surf and sand. Make sure to bring water for you and the dog. Good boy.
