The 2014 Miami Jewish Film Festival took place months ago, but festival director Igor Shteyrenberg isn't content to feature Jewish cinema just two weeks out of the year; he's wants to keep it booming 24-7. The best way to do this, of course, is offer those Miami movie lovers a way to watch more films, especially when they're free.
Where better to do that than the New World Center, known for its outdoor screenings as part of the SoundScape Cinema series? Showing classics and new releases alike, the New World Center has been offering all sorts of film experiences for Miami. This time around, the Miami Jewish Film Festival is collaborating with the Films on the Beach Festival, which is presented by the French Embassy Cultural Services and the Miami Beach Arts in the Parks program. As part of the series, they will be screening The Rabbi's Cat, the César Award winning, animated treat directed by Joann Sfar and Antoine Delesvaux.
Leave your lame excuse that animated films are meant for children at home; the trailer alone reveals a charming, religiously fueled work that just happens to boast some good-looking animation. Additionally, it's following A Cat in Paris, another feline-themed film presented just last week.
"We are excited to invite the community to share in this free special event under the stars," says festival director Shteyrenberg. "We are delighted to be partnering with the French Embassy Cultural Services and the Miami Beach Arts in the Parks program, and we think the picturesque New World Symphony Soundscape is an ideal location for this unique outdoor screening. We look forward to enjoying this wonderful evening with our friends and neighbors in Miami."
If the notion of spending the night with friends watching a movie on a massive projection wall isn't enough, there's also the promise of food for the evening. La Tour Eiffel, a French restaurant in Miami's MiMo district, will be providing a selection of tastings from their menu. So take your Thursday night off and join the Miami Jewish Film Festival for a surreal feature under the stars.
