This October is more than just an opportunity to drink yourself silly and wear lederhosen. Thanks to the folks at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, you can get drunk, wear lederhosen, and attend 20 events in a four-week period. OK, you don't have to attend all 20....but you do have to wear the lederhosen.
During the month of October, the Frost School of Music presents Festival Miami--a
veritable whirlwind of concerts and events that fall into one of four
categories: Great Performances, Jazz and Beyond, Creative American
Music, and Music of the Americas.
Now in its 27th year, the festival presents a varied line-up of students, faculty, and internationally renowned artists performing opera, dance, showtunes, and concerts. Festival Miami also offers master classes and lectures. There will even be The U's version of American Idol, an event called New Songwriting Sensations, in which Frost students get judged for best original song by Lamont Dozier, who wrote and produced 54 number one hits for the likes of Marvin Gaye and The Supremes.
We also have Hansel y Raúl, the amazing Cuban duo responsible for such hits as "Kukucha-Kucha," "Con la Lengua Afuera," "Maria Teresa y Danilo," and others. Nestor Torres, the well-known flautist, will be performing with our very own Henry Mancini Orchestra. We also have a Broadway tribute to Frank Loesser, another musical genius.
Another highlight of Festival Miami is Momentum Dance Company. Their dances are mesmerizing! Not to mention, our opening and closing nights at Festival Miami are always unforgettable among all concert-goers."
