Two days ago in 2009, a crack cultural commando unit was formed to protest a crime they didn't commit. These men and women sought to escape the death sentence the Mayor's Office handed down in the form of $11 million worth of proposed budget cuts by rising out of the Miami Underground. Today, still unwanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...the Task Force on the Performing and Visual Arts in Miami-Dade County.
Obviously I'm all for a Task Force to keep this money in the budget, but what's with the diss of the Literary Arts? Is the Task Force unconcerned with the future of the Book Fair, FCLA, Tigertail, etc.? Why couldn't they just name it, Task Force on the Arts in Miami-Dade County? That's like leaving H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock off the A-Team! (Clearly a poet if there ever was one...)
Nevertheless,
the first meeting of the Task Force is open to the public and you
should go, so break out your Outlook, iCal, Google Cal, whatever and
enter: Wednesday, August 26 at 4:30 p.m. at the Miami Science Museum Auditorium (3280 South Miami Ave).
Also, please fill out their survey. Your testimony can help shape the dialogue.
