No matter what the crime, no matter where it took place, it seems there's always a Florida connection.
And the theft of financial information about high-profile public figures such as Kim Kardashian, Jay-Z, and even FLOTUS Michelle Obama is no exception.
The Russian "celebrity hackers" who allegedly stole financial records from the U.S.'s biggest names in politics and entertainment (and Hulk Hogan, for some reason) were apparently inspired by the Showtime series Dexter -- about a vigilante serial killer who lives, works, and murders in Miami.
According to TMZ, the hackers (believed to be Russian because the name of their website uses the suffix .su, for Soviet Union) greet visitors to their website with a quote from the series protagonist Dexter Morgan himself:
If you believe that God makes miracles, you have to wonder if Satan has a few up his sleeve.
It's from the season-two finale, "The British Invasion," which originally ran in 2007:
The hackers also paid tribute to Dexter and his dark passenger via hidden HTML code on that website. There, TMZ reports, they linked to the spooky music that plays during Dexter's credits:
On one hand, it's pretty creepy to think these hackers might think of themselves as serial killers. But on the other, the celebrities and politicians of the world have only a few months of worrying left. The new season of Dexter begins June 30, and if these guys are the big fans they appear to be, that'll be distraction enough.
