Telemundo Breaks Records, Univision Beats NBC in Key Demo

As English-language broadcast television continues to bleed viewers to cable and the Internet, Spanish-language networks seem to be on fire.

Telemundo, headquartered in Hialeah, announced that March was its best month ever for ratings, and the first quarter of 2009 was its single best quarter in history. The network attracted about 1.12 million people in Sunday through Monday prime time in March, and averaged 1.15 million for the entire quarter.

The news isn't so good for Telemundo's corporate cousin, NBC. Univision, the other major Spanish network, is gaining traction on NBC. Uni can't quite touch the Peacock in terms of total viewers, but during the week of March 16 through the 22, the network beat NBC in the advertiser-coveted 18-34 demographic.

Though we love NBC's 30 Rock (and thank the network for keeping the moderately popular show on-air), it is kind of ironic that last month the show took a few shots at Telemundo- and Univision-style shows. Clip above!
