Embattled Miami-Dade County Public Schools Rudy Crew is in hot water with the School Board again. Not over his shoddy handling of the budget. Not over the the failing results of his improvement plans. Not over his questionable hiring and firing tactics, but over snubbing a school board meeting. Tensions are high between Crew and the Board, but missing a School Board meeting is the equivalent of not letting a High School frenemy sit at your lunch table.
The snub is the latest in a long line of troubles between the School Board and Crew. Earlier this month a motion to dismiss the superintendent was discussed, but Crew managed to hold onto his job by a narrow 5-4 vote. Though trouble have been brewing for sometime. Even if you weren't reading about it in The Herald. Last year, a New Times investigating found a tenure that has wrought blunders that make this latest dust up look trivial.
The school system's budget is due to the state Department of Education in less than a month, and a planned meeting to finish work on the budget and discuss the systems recent financial problems was planned Tuesday. Tropical Storm Fey forced the board to reschedule for today at noon. Crew won't be there because he felt the meeting wasn't properly advertised, further delaying work on the budget.
After nearly escaping last month's attempted ousting, Crew told AM 1490, "If they're going to fire me, then let's get on with it."
C'mon dudes. Grow up!
