Republican Senate Candidate Connie Mack's wayward youth spent getting into bar fights and road rage incidents is well known to those who have been following this race closely, but incumbent Bill Nelson is about to blast that history across the state with an attack ad.
The Nelson campaign characterizes Mack as, "a promoter for Hooters, with a history of bar-room brawling, altercations and road rage. A big spender with a trail of debts, liens and unpaid bills."
Politifact has checked the ad, and rated it "mostly true."
Mack is the son of a former senator and grandson of a famous baseball magnate, so Nelson's is trying to characterize him as a wayward, spoiled son of a privileged family (which, to Mack's credit, is more of a personality than Nelson seems to have). The campaign is trying to belittle his business experience by characterizing him as a "Hooters promoter," which, well, is kind of true. From Politifact:
Mack campaign spokesman David James told us for our previous fact check about Hooters that Mack was a marketing executive for LTP Management from 1994 to 2000. The company owned and operated several Hooters franchises in Florida, as well as Dan Marino's Town Tavern and Lulu's Bait Shack.So, Mack wasn't a "Hooters Promoter," but rather a "marketing executive" at a company that owned a bunch of Hooters.
Mack never received a paycheck directly from Hooters, but "we never denied he worked on behalf of Hooters," James said.

By the way, Politico reported back in March that Mack and his wife Rep. Mary Bono of California have received a combined $50,000 in campaign donations from Hooters management during their time in congress.
