Despite being quoted by CBSSports.com yesterday saying that the University of Miami wants to renegotiate Al Golden's contract, and implying that the coach wouldn't be above abandoning ship if the team was hit by crippling NCAA sanctions, Golden's agent Adam Senior now says that Golden will honor his contract. Senior tells The Miami Herald that Golden still hopes to bring a national championship back to the school.
"Al is not going anywhere, OK?" said Senior told The Herald. "He is so committed. All he talks to me about is how great the players are and how much he loves them. He loves his home here. His family loves it here."
"He's got a five-year contract. He's there to honor the contract. He's the real thing."
However, Golden has maintained that when he was hired, he was not notified that the school could be facing an investigation as a result of the Nevin Shapiro scandal. Neither were new AD Shawn Eichorst and basketball coach Jim Larranaga.
Though, Eichorst also said yesterday, "He and I are in this for the long haul," referring to Golden.
