Miami's Five Best Open Mic Nights

Don't sweat it. Just let loose, grab that microphone, and do your thing.

Open-mic nights are the missing link between the karaoke bar and throwing your own concert. They're a place to pour your heart out to complete strangers. A place where first timers and old timers share the stage.

Are you a poet, and you just don't know it? Do you spit rhymes? Can you make the guitar cry? Do you secretly have the voice of an angel?

Here are Miami's five best open-mic nights.

Artistic Vibes

This year's Best of Miami open-mic night winner definitely deserves a prime spot on the list. Once you get past the odd location (as we've previously described it, "stuck behind an Outback Steakhouse in Kendall") and really take in the creative atmosphere, you'll recognize that this spot is an artistic paradise. Every Thursday night, comedian Xander Rey and poet Quills Rodriguez host a show that doesn't discriminate by genre and isn't limited to music. Pretty much any type of stage performance goes at Artistic Vibes.

Bohemia Room

This gypsy-like open mic has traveled to various Miami venues. But for a while now, it has made its home at The Garret at Grand Central. Every Wednesday, local and international performers get together to be enlightened, laugh, and jam out. There's usually a featured performer following the open mic portion of the night. So you're sure to have a great time at the Bohemia Room, even if you don't plan on crashing the stage.

The Imperial

Stone Groove 2.0., as host Marcus Blake says. The Vagabond may be gone, but its legendary open mic night lives on. The show has moved to a new home at The Stage and changed names, but it's as lively as ever. On Tuesday nights, the Design District crowd gets funky as talented Miami artists gather for a night of free expression and creativity. There's no rules when you're at The Imperial.

Words & Wine

It's pretty much a given that any open-mic night is going to have words, but throw in wine ... Naturally, we named Words & Wine as our Best of Miami pick back in 2011. Three years later, it continues to offer Miami a platform for all kinds of creatives and oenophiles to come together at Wynwood's TSL Lounge on Wednesday nights.

Mondays Nights at Churchill's Pub

This informal jazz jam and open-mic night has been a favorite of Miami artists for a long time. The Theatre De Underground lives up to its name by having countless performers share the stage in an indescribable mixture of poetry and music. There's no telling what you're in for on Monday Nights at Churchill's Pub, but it's sure to be a hell of a ride.
