Near silence can be fun. But Prism Music Group and Arts + Entertainment District think the Mover needs a soundtrack, so they’re turning the usual quiet ride into a silent getdown.
“Essentially, the whole event is to bring excitement into public transit,” says Prism Music Group’s Isabella Acker. “We’ve noticed a lot of locals, even including myself, have never been on it. I don’t know the stops. So we’re trying to think of a cool, creative way to really inject that excitement and awareness.”
People who want to party on public transit should arrive Thursday, June 4, at Canvas Condominiums by 7 p.m. for a first-come, first-served pair of LED wireless headphones and a chance to ride the Metromover's Omni Loop while three killer DJs — Myke Dilla, Element, and Tillery James — spin sick sounds. When check-in wraps, the whole crew will walk to School Board Station, where the fun truly begins. The Miami Soul Train, like any trip aboard the Mover, will be free. All you’ve got to bring is your dancing shoes.
The ride will make three stops, including scenic Bayfront Park, where dancers can let loose to full-volume sets from three Miami bands, presented in partnership with pop-up concert creators Buskerfest. A full trip around Omni Loop takes about 35 minutes, but the musical interludes will keep the party going longer. If you don’t happen to snag a pair of headphones in time to join the party train, you can always meet up at one of the three stops and listen to the bands. Or why not just kick back at Canvas, sipping on complimentary Motown-inspired cocktails from Apothecary Airstream and Sailor Jerry while enjoying appetizers from Purple People Eatery? Everyone will be circling back to the downtown condo for the afterparty anyway.
“There’s something so valuable about the Metromover; it just needs some brand awareness,” Acker says. “Everyone dancing on the Metromover. It really promotes community and public transit.”
