Admit it. We’ve all wondered what really is in our face creams and shampoos and if it’s really helping. We’ve all worried about that at some point. Usually that happens when you’re in the middle of the shower and the product is on your face or hair. Also admit that you’ve sat up in the middle of the night googling herbal formulations that heal not hurt.
You’ll find search engines throwing up ‘neem’ often. It’s a tree, growing mostly in India and South Asia. And Neem, a U.S. based brand is now bringing it to your doorstep.
Let’s talk about some science before we go forward.
Neem, or Azadirachta indica, is a part of the Mahogany family and also known as the Indian Lilac. It’s filled with several biologically active compounds or phytochemicals like limonoids and Nimbidin, a type of triterpene that helps in reducing inflammation. Neem oil and extracts contain fatty acids, vitamin E, triglycerides, antioxidants, and calcium, all of which contribute to a healthy skin and scalp. These are all extracted from the fruit, bark and leaves of the neem tree and have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. More and more skincare experts and dermatologists are now looking to help improve scalp health, taking care of breakouts and keeping the skin clean & healthy. Neem is quickly becoming the superfood your skin needs.
Neem is introducing 6 brand new quality, researched and science-backed neem products for both men & women to take care of hair and the skin. We tried them all and here’s what we found:
What you use for your skincare routine usually depends on the condition of your skin. And there’s a variety of products out there to take care of each type. The Neem & Aloe Vera scrub soap from buyneem.com works on all though. Neem, as a herb, has long been celebrated for what it can do for your skin. The BuyNeem scrub soap bar features a top layer of scrub formulated using neem, aloe vera and basil to help slough off dead skin and increase blood flow. It’s paraben free and cruelty-free and at $14.99 a great product to have on your sink.
Our skins got a no-pollution, low-sun exposure boost during the many lockdowns in the last 2 years. (So we did get something out of the pandemic!) But now that we’re out and getting back into the work-play-work rhythm, it’s important to take extra care of our skin again. We’d use formulations that have antifungal, antibacterial and disinfectant properties and the Neem & Tulsi Face Wash checks all the boxes. It's great for the skin on your face because of its powerhouse ingredients – neem, honey, tulsi (basil) and soapberry extracts. The face wash works hard taking care of acne, clogged pores and helps in removing excess oil that builds up during the day. We loved the fact that neem is also a natural antiseptic and the product, priced at $24.99 is entirely cruelty-free.
Your morning shower should be a relaxing time, prepping you up for the day. Not a 15-minute wonder-fest at whether the chemicals in your soap are drying out your skin or ensuring a breakout is just around the corner. Neem & Tulsi soap uses all natural ingredients like neem, basil (tulsi) and lodhra – that last one an ancient healing herb (symplocos racemosa) long used in Indian Ayurvedic practice and we found it helped in keeping the skin oil-free, reduced inflammation and left the skin supple. Definitely what we want in our morning skincare routine. At $14.99, Neem & Tulsi Soap is a bar we’d recommend buying on repeat.
Neem Face Cream was our favorite product right out of the gate. The richly textured cream uses neem oil extract (a fat-rich oil that is loaded with antioxidants like Vitamin E and is believed to have anti-ageing properties) coconut oil, always a crowd-pleaser for the extra moisture it provides, and apricot oil that acts as a natural sunscreen. The neem oil extract is comedogenic, good for all skin types and does not leave your face feeling greasy –a big plus. We’d make sure to use it twice everyday to keep the skin’s natural moisture sealed in. Truth be told, we also tried it on our hands and it felt just as good – we thought after 2 whole years of obsessively washing and sanitizing our hands, they deserved some good loving. It helps that the product is paraben-free and like all Neem products never tested on animals – yours for just $29.99.
From working like magic on acne, cleansing and clearing out clogged pores and treating oily skin, Neem Face Pack was a hard worker and a big hit with our review team. While chemical peels and sheet masks are everywhere, they work on the outside more than the inside. On the other hand, neem and its extracts, coaxed from the plant’s leaves, bark and the fruit, stimulate the production of collagen and improve the skin’s elasticity. So it works from the inside out. And that’s what we liked about Neem Face Pack. With a high vitamin E content, neem also helps keep free radicals in check from hurting your skin; that feels good too! And the face pack works on all skin types – including the sensitive ones. Paraben-free, cruelty-free and retailing at just $19.99 – what’s not to like?!
Right off the bat, the first thing our review team loved about the BuyNeem shampoo & conditioner was that it does two jobs at one go. Harnessing the antifungal, antibacterial properties of neem, the Neem Shampoo & Conditioner from Neem also includes aloe vera to stimulate hair growth (there ARE better ways to grow those tresses than just not getting them cut!) It’s got a healthy dose of almond oil also to keep your hair non-frizzy and smooth and works on all types of hair. We love that like all the other Neem products this one’s paraben-free and cruelty free. Retailing at just $19.99, we’d keep it handy in the shower.
The Verdict: Right at the start we told ourselves to come back with honest opinions only and it was a big ‘yes’ to all the Neem products we tried. The products made a big impact on the team (and our beauty regimens!) and here’s a recap of why:
Would we continue using them? Sure, we’re Neem fans for life.
