With a Zika scare in effect, the number of tourists visiting Wynwood has dropped. Walk down any street and you'll notice a dearth of wide-eyed people posing for selfies in front of the neighborhood's colorful murals or sipping craft beers and coffee.

There is some good news, however. Wynwood businesses are proactively fighting Zika by spraying insecticide, supplying customers with repellent, and disposing of any standing water. In turn, local residents still support their favorite bars and breweries by putting on long-sleeved shirts and heading out to their preferred places.

As a result, life is returning to the neighborhood. The Wynwood Yard, closed for a week, reopens today, and the Butcher Shop's Arts & Kegs Series starts tomorrow. To show appreciation for Miamians' show of support for Wynwood, local business owners have implemented the campaign Love for Locals.

Wood Tavern's Cesar Morales explains that Love for Locals came from the idea that, no matter what happens, locals are the people who keep Wynwood going. "Locals have always been here, and they continue to support us on rainy days and slow times."

Though the bar owner says he has taken every precaution to ensure his customers are protected from Zika — including fumigating once a week, misting the perimeter twice a day with a natural spray, getting rid of any standing water, and providing bug spray — he wants to focus more on the future. "We've slowed down, sure, but let's get positive. When times get tough, we come together and we decided as a group to stand by our locals and provide them with a thank you."

Locals made us and Wynwood, rain or shine you have always shown love, THANK YOU! #LoveForLocals
