Michael Mina's Stripsteak to Open at Fontainebleau in November

Celebrity chef Michael Mina is "doubling down" on his Fontainebleau presence when Stripsteak, his second venue at the Miami Beach resort opens sometime in November.

The new restaurant, described as "an innovative and contemporary steakhouse concept", replaces Gotham Steak as the major carnivorous draw at the hotel. The two-story indoor-outdoor 12,000 square foot space, decorated in rich woods, is described as being, "sexy, fun, elegant, and engaging."

Chef Mina, who opened Michael Mina 74 at the Fontainebleau less than a year ago, says he was so impressed with the resort, he couldn't resist working there again. "I have an amazing partner in the Fontainebleau and jumped at the chance to grow it with Stripsteak. They're very much about innovating in all aspects, especially food and beverage, and it would be fair to say that our perspectives line up nicely."

Mina says that the two restaurants are different, yet complement one another -- and the Fontainebleau. "Stripsteak is my take on a contemporary steakhouse and is the sister restaurant to Stripsteak Las Vegas. Michael Mina 74 was a unique concept we created specifically for Fontainebleau Miami Beach. It's share plates driven, innovative, and whimsical. Stripsteak will have a more traditional dining style than Michael Mina 74 but both will embrace the spirit and energy the hotel is known for and deliver unmatched service, food and cocktails."

Stripsteak's chef de cuisine Derrick Roberts will offer both surf and turf directly from the hotel's on-site aging room/butcher shop as well as from the BlueFish live seafood catch program. There will be innovative offerings like "instant bacon" -- pork belly, tempura oyster, and jicama; wood-fired Berkshire pork; and an A5 striploin and A4 ribeye (both from the Miyazaki prefecture of Japan, served in 5-oz. portions). If you're a hearty eater, you might be attracted to the 50-oz. Australian tomahawk.

Of course, you can't have Kool-Aid with your tomahawk, so Stripsteak will feature a beverage program that includes an expansive wine list and cocktails that hearken back to the Fontainebleau's days when Rat Pack members would drink Manhattans and old fashioneds while in Miami.

When it opens, Stripsteak will actually be Mina's third restaurant in Miami. The chef, who owns nearly two dozen restaurants across the nation, including the Michelin Star-rated Michael Mina in San Francisco, also owns Bourbon Steak at the Turnberry Isle in Aventura.

Seems as though the chef is quite fond of our city's culinary scene and it's warmth. "This city's food culture is growing in leaps and bounds and it's rewarding to see how warmly my concepts have been embraced by the locals and visitors. Plus, a third restaurant gives me even more reason to visit, especially during the winter."

Once it opens, Stripsteak will serve dinner nightly beginning at 6 p.m.
