Spring has officially sprung, and with the change of seasons comes the change of seasonal dishes. Locally grown produce and sustainable eating has become a permanent trend in the Magic City. More restaurants are converting daily to this way of life, and we love it. What we don't love is the sudden change in menus from one day to another. Letting go of our winter favorites sucks, but for local restaurants to keep up, so must their menus.
Neighborhood favorite and late-night eatery Gigi has removed a few of the beloved buns (don't you worry, child, the pork bun has survived the cut), but new delicious bun choices have been added, along with other menu items.
Gigi's spring menu features some reinvented favorites, including the long-awaited return of the duck fried rice ($16) and a new pork belly dish. Speaking of duck, there's also a smoked duck bun with pickled celery and scallion ($10). For those who loved the tuna roll, the tuna hamachi roll ($12) is double the fish and made in paper-thin sheets of vegetable with avocado and a light ponzu sauce. Market choice oysters (four for $12) with nigori lemon togarashi and mignonette are also available during the hot months to follow.
New buns include chicken ($9) with melted cheddar, bean purée, and crispy tortilla, and an asparagus bun ($8) with Gruyère and crispy fried shallots. Looking for a healthful alternative? Try the in-house mozzarella "egg," stuffed with a cherry tomato and cucumber ($10). Yakatori skewers ($9) with a daily mix of veggies and proteins will also keep things light, or you can go heavy with one of Gigi's two new noodle dishes. The seafood ho fun ($19) has shrimp, scallops, and mussels with scallions and shiitake, while the rich carbonara udon ($16) is all beef with pork tenderloin and pork belly.
Daily specials will continue to be offered, as well as the popular Brussels sprouts and teeny ice-cream cones.
