From 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, Thai

House II -- not to be confused with Thai House I on South

Beach -- offers a lunch menu in addition to an already extensive

menu featuring Thai and Japanese cuisine. The lunch menu, with dishes

of tempura or teriyaki, and sushi combination plates, also features

eight Thai plates in which most have the option of guest's choice of

protein.

Choice #2 is pork, chicken or beef with

vegetables ($6.50) or shrimp with vegetables ($6.75). The chicken

with vegetables was ordered and did not disappoint. A generous

portion of soy sauce-marinated chicken, with steamed vegetables

including carrots and broccoli, came out piping hot and full of

flavor. To substitute the side of white rice with brown cost 50

cents. It is a bit of a disappointment that such a small request

would cost an 8 percent up-charge.

Choice #5 is pork, beef or chicken

curry with bamboo shoots and green peas ($6.95). The chicken curry's

spice was requested medium, on a scale of mild; medium; spicy; very

spicy. And even the medium had some kick to it. The curry wasn't

overpowering. Bamboo shoots, red and green bell peppers, and peas

were included.

And for good measure, the fresh rolls

($6.75) were ordered off the appetizer menu. Each roll comes with

cooked chicken, lettuce, cucumber, carrot, celery, cabbage, and

mushroom wrapped in rice paper. Served is a side of Thai dipping

sauce, that is comprised of fish sauce, vinegar, sugar, scallions,

and peanuts. One order is enough for two people, as the plate comes

with eight rolls. Be careful what you order at That House II, because

if you have food allergies, the peanuts aren't listed on the menu for

instance.

With decor including ornate wood

carvings, even under a plate of glass on the dining room tables, and

ambiance curiously enhanced by music that sounds like the soundtrack

of an Asian-inspired spaghetti western, Thai House II offers generous

portions of Thai cuisine at reasonable prices, especially during

lunch.
