As part of our 4/20 holiday celebration, Short Order decided to cook up something special. Then we got lazy, for some reason, and decided to make pot brownies instead.
There are hundreds of recipes on the Internet and in cook books at your neighborhood head shop. It could be a lot to take in, considering the audience, so we put together for readers the simplest way to make the best brownies. This isn't made from scratch, it is not "organic" and it won't really impress your guests - but it works. Depending on your preference, we offer a variation of side-steps from the bare essentials.
1. Gather the necessary equipment.
No matter what your preference, you are going to need the same basic ingredients.
- 1 package of brownie mix
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil OR half stick of butter (1/2 cup)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 8" x 8" baking pan
- Between 1/16-1/8 ounce of pot
- Vanilla frosting (optional)
- Peanut butter (optional)
Depending on the taste and potency you desire, use between a half-eighth (1.75 grams) and eighth (3.5) per brownie box. Remember, marijuana is essentially a flower, and it tastes like one. The rich chocolate in fudge brownies (regular and walnut are usually also available) does wonders to mask the flavor, but more than an eighth and the earthiness of the weed begins to overpower. For illustrative purposes, we used synthetic marijuana in place of the real stuff.
2. Mix the ingredients depending on your preference.
Grind down the pot into a fine collection of grains. Here is where you can switch it up. If you prefer oil, mix the egg, water and oil first, then add the grinded-down pot (pictured). If you prefer butter, use a skillet and melt it before adding the fine grains. Add that butter pot into the egg and water, then add the brownie mix. It may seem like too little liquid at first, but not after you beat the mixture with a wooden spoon or a large fork. You can also add a 1/4 cup of peanut butter to the mixture.
3. Place the mixture into a baking pan and into oven.
Pour the resulting mixture into an 8" x 8" baking pan and place into oven for about 35 minutes. A glass baking pan requires about 7-8 minutes more and a 9" x 9" pan would take about 4-5 minutes less.
You can add a layer of peanut butter or a layer of vanilla frosting (or both!) to the top. Cut into six equal slices. Depending on the amount of pot used, one or two brownies will do the trick. It is more of a body high and lasts for a bit longer than when smoked. Get a glass of milk and enjoy!
