Beer will bombard Coconut Grove this Saturday for the first-ever Grovetoberfest at Peacock Park this Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.
About 100 beers will be available for your drinking pleasure, including the world premieres of Miami's own Schnebly Redlands Winery's Beach Blonde and Gator Tail Ales.
Limited release beers and ales available for sampling include Blue Point Toxic Sludge Black IPA, Cigar City Xenu Honey Cream Ale, Cigar City Table Saison, Dogfish Festina Peche, Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin, Shipyard XXXX IPA, and Victory Braumeister Spalt.
In addition to beer sampling (yes, there's more to beer than drinking it), chef Ralph Pagano of STK Miami will host the Kitchen Lab, where he'll be joined by chefs Alberto Cabrera (The Local), Michael Jacobs (Miami Heat), and Pastor Sequera (caterer to
the stars). The Lab will feature beer and food pairing demos.
If you've always wanted to make your own beer at home, head over to the
Homebrew pavilion, presented by Brew Box Miami. Live brewing demos and
home brew samples will give you a head start on your new hobby of beer
(which is oh-so-much more fun than your collection of promotional
baseball caps).
Did you know that beer is as old as mankind and it's the third most
popular beverage in the world, behind only water and tea? If that kind
of stuff gets you all teary-eyed, take the Beer 101 class with Dr. Barry
Gump. The 20-minute class has got to be more fun than the calculus
class you flunked out of three times.
If all this beer talk makes you wonder how the heck you're going to get
home, convince a friend to become a designated driver. Designated
drivers receive free admission (one per group of three or more), free
food vouchers and a T-shirt that says, It's OK to go home with me -- I'm a designated driver. If you still find yourself a little tipsy, the Ride Home program will make sure you get home safe. Shuttles are available to and from the Coconut Grove Metrorail station as well.
Tickets are $29 in advance until October 14, $39 at the gate and $89
for VIP, which gets you early entry, access to the VIP lounge,
complimentary food, no lines, a commemorative beer glass and a special
selection of high-end beer, available only at the VIP lounge. Purchase
tickets at grovetoberfest.com.
