Area 31 has a bubbly happy hour sure to turn that uphill battle into a downhill rush. "Veuve on the Clock" features Veuve Clicquot champagne specially priced according to what time it is -- from 5:00 to 5:59 it's $5, 6:00 to 6:59 it's $6, 7:00 to 7:59 it's $7 and 8:00 to 8:59 it's $8 -- it's a super bargain for one of the world's most recognizable wines. Need we remind you a bottle normally goes for about $85 on a list or $45 in a store?
What makes Veuve Clicquot so special? Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin fame arises from the fact that Madame Clicquot took over her husband's businesses and wine estates when he died in 1805, hence the name "veuve" or "widow." Madame Clicquot revolutionized the wine industry by creating the exceptional "Vins de la Comète" and later developed a special bottle dressing, now the famous yellow jacket worn by the non-vintage bottling. Although wine snobs turn their noses up at Veuve because of the millions of bottles they produce, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a glass of bubbly that runs your tab up at $6.
"Veuve on the Clock" is available at Area 31 on weekdays from 5 to 9 p,m. but if bubbles are not your thing, regular happy hour features $5 cocktails and snacks. Valet is $5 with validation Monday through Thursday, but a whopping ten buck after 5 p.m. on Fridays.
So whether it's hump day, glooms day, or just feeling bloated day...today is most certainly Winesday. Cheers to that.
