When chef Art Smith announced his plan to spring for 101 gay weddings at the James Royal Palm Hotel during the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, social media went into a tizzy with loving couples scrambling to be one of the lucky ones to get hitched during this group ceremony and soiree, held on Saturday, February 21, at 3 p.m.
The totally free wedding will include a fabulous reception thrown by Smith and friends. That means instead of the usual catered rubber chicken, happy newlyweds and guests will feast on food by celebrity chefs, a one-of-a-kind wedding cake created by Duff Goldman, and a special toast courtesy of Moët Ice Imperial.
SoBeWFF founder and director, Lee Brian Schrager is proud of his longtime friend Art Smith's contribution to nationwide marriage equality efforts, saying, "We are excited to be a part of this historic occasion with him, and wish all of the new couples exchanging vows in Florida a happy marriage filled with lots of wine, food, and laughter."
With that in mind, Schrager and Smith would like to invite you to what will surely be the wedding(s) of the year.
Although the engaged couples have already been chosen, the South Beach Food & Wine Festival cordially requests the honor of your presence....if you're one of the first lucky 50 people to snag an invitation with a guest.
Starting at 10:30 a.m. this morning, check Lee Brian Schrager's Twitter account @Lee_Schrager and hashtag #101GayWeddings. At that time, the festival director will announce special directions
to enter the contest.
You'll witness the gigantic wedding, and enjoy the following cocktail reception, featuring bites from South Florida's finest chefs, champagne, and a dance party featuring DJ Chi Chi Larue.
You don't even need to bring a present, although winners have the ability to make an optional direct donation to the LGBTQA Club at Florida International University (FIU).
