Further illustrating the racial divide in response to the death of Trayvon Martin and the trial of his killer, George Zimmerman, a new ABC News/Washington Post poll has found that while the majority of non-Hispanic white people agree with the not-guilty verdict the jury handed down to Zimmerman, the majority of blacks and Hispanics disagree with the outcome.
It's interesting to note that while Zimmerman himself identifies as Hispanic, Hispanics disagreed with the jury at a rate of about two-to-one. Though, they also responded that they had no opinion at a higher rate than the other groups.
Whites, however, were divided equally as to whether the shooting was justified.
Somewhat surprisingly, more than any other group, Hispanics were willing to agree that the Department of Justice should charge Zimmerman with violating Martin's civil rights. Whites, however, were more adamant as a group that the DOJ should stay out of the case.
