Danilo Jose Mejia Salazar, 63, showed up to work yesterday for his job as a janitor at the Coral Reef Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Southwest Miami-Dade and left after being airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center's Trauma Center.
For reasons police are still trying to piece together, Gregoria Rojas, 51, fatally stabbed Salazar in the neck.
Rojas was visiting his brother, a patient at the center, when he got into an argument with Salazar in a hallway. According to NBC Miami, the argument turned physical. Rojas pulled out a knife and stabbed Salazar in the neck multiple times around 3 p.m.
Rojas then took off, but police apprehended him. He still had the knife on him when he was cuffed.
Salazar was airlifted to the nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.
"Everybody was crying, like the nurses -- everybody was crying there like they were one of his family members," witness Nadine Brice told the station.
Rojas was booked into jail early this morning on charges of first-degree murder. He's being held without bond.
