Marlins Park Will Host a College Football Bowl Game Next Year

College football may finally be coming back to the land where the Orange Bowl stood for decades. According to ESPN, a new bowl game tentatively titled the Miami Bowl we be played in Marlins Park starting in 2014.

The bowl was created by the American Athletic Conference (formerly the Big East), and will pair up a team from that conference with an opponent from one of the other smaller conferences. It's part of a slate of five new bowl games that are expected to officially be announced soon that will cater to the smaller conference. New bowl games will also be played at FAU Stadium and, intriguingly, in the Bahamas.

Though Marlins Park is definitely a stadium that caters to baseball, the park has already hosted soccer games. Using the field for American football wouldn't be much different.

Three other baseball-specific parks also currently host bowl games, including Yankees Stadium, Tropicana Field in Tampa, and AT&T Park in San Francisco.

This isn't the first time Miami has hosted a bowl game in addition to the Orange Bowl. From 1990 to 2000, Sun Life Stadium also hosted a game originally known as the Blockbuster Bowl. That game since moved to Orlando where it's known as the Russell Athletic Bowl.
