It's almost too crass to state, but it remains obvious that nothing mixes worse than kids and guns. Forget oil and water.
A 4-year-old boy in Little Havana was accidentally shot in the groin after his 17-year-old half-brother found and then began playing with a rifle.
The two boys were under the supervision of their grandfather Pedro Del Sol. The old man decided a closet was the best place to keep his .22-caliber rifle, though he told police he thought the gun was broken.
The older boy found the gun and began horse-playing with the younger boy.
The rifle fired, and the bullet wound up in his baby brother's groin.
The boy was able to walk out of the room on his own after the accident but was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
And that, folks, is why you make sure you keep safety locks on your guns -- even the "broken" ones -- and lock them in a gun cabinet.
