With the Dolphins' season in full swing and the new-look Heat about to make their big debut tonight, Miami is poised for a successful year in sports. These days, though, there seems to be just as much talk about how athletes are wearing their hair as their performances on the field or court. Men's Celebrity Hair Stylist and Grooming Expert for AXE Hair, Amy Komorowski, gives the low-down on the best looks on the Dolphins and Heat and a couple that need a little ahem, work.
Davone Bess (WR):
doesn't have to be short to be well-groomed. A guy's mane should
reflect his personality and Davone's style reflects a laid-back, cool,
and fun approach to life. He clearly keeps his braids clean and
moisturized, giving them a flowing, natural look that works for him.
Anthony Fasano (TE):
is one of my favorite go-to styles, the "just-out-of-bed" look. It's a
universal cut that looks great on most guys - especially Anthony - and
gives the impression that they didn't spend a lot of time getting ready.
The key is to keep the hair shorter on the sides and back and longer on
Chad Pennington (QB):
This is that
quintessential "jock" hairstyle (in a good way). It's slightly longer on
the top, sides and back, but still maintains a great loose and
effortless shape. Chad's style is quite versatile, with options for side
parts, slicking it all back, or keeping it on the "controlled" messy
side. He may need a little trim just to stay looking kempt, but overall,
this look works for him.
Dolphins: The Bad
Dan Carpenter (K):
hair is a great length on top and his goatee is perfectly trimmed and
groomed. However, my motto is to avoid the dangerous mullet territory at
all costs, so guys should be careful not to keep the back too long in
proportion to the top and sides.
Dwyane Wade (G):
it comes to style, Dwyane is one of the most daring athletes out there.
He keeps his hair simple and clean with this close buzz cut. This is a
great option for guys who have coarse or curly hair or for those who
have a hectic schedule as it's easy to maintain.
LeBron James (F):
the King's crown is always covered with a headband when he's on the
court, Lebron definitely understands the importance of grooming. From
his grown-out buzz cut to his facial hair of the same length, LeBron
knows how to make a statement on and off the court.
Erik Spoelstra (Coach):
sports a classic style that can be pulled off by most men and works
well with his more formal coaching attire. Guys can't go wrong with a
clean-cut style with a bit of length on top. Just don't forget to add
some product, as most styles look better with a little something to add
hold and texture.
Heat: The Bad
Here's a great example of the power of a haircut. Compared to his notorious
"Fabio" look on his old teams (below), Mike's new buzz cut dramatically
improves his overall appearance, but his facial hair definitely needs
work. A clean shave to go along with his new buzz cut is the way to go.
