Judging from Saturday's Red Bull Flugtag at Bayfront Park, the reasons competitors fling themselves into the bay atop their own homemade flying machines are as diverse as the competitors themselves.

The most recent Flugtag to hit Miami, occurring simultaneously in Chicago, Dallas, Washington, DC, and Long Beach, California, brought a wide swath of wanna be fliers to the platform. There were serious scientists, including a team of engineers from the University of Miami. There were silly attention seekers, like the crew from the Hard Rock Cafe and their "legendary burger."

But one thing united them all: a crash landing in Biscayne Bay watched by thousands. Check it out in slow-mo in our video below.
