If you're anxious to watch Tom Cruise don leather pants, showcase his pole dancing skill, and belt hair metal like he's channeling Bret Michaels, your wait is almost over. Rock of Ages, the '80s nostalgia song and dance flick (formerly a Broadway musical) that filmed here in Miami, hits theaters June 15. The film has a celeb-laden cast, including Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, and of course, our favorite Scientologist himself.
The trailer for the movie looks, well, bad. But if you're an optimist (hey, it might be so bad it's good), be on the lookout for an upcoming promotional event that'll bring the flick's old school style to the streets of Miami in full force.
Jason Wool, a Miami resident who can be spotted in the flick as a bouncer, a rocker, and a record store customer (among other characters) has decided to take the theater experience to the next level.
Wool decided to plan an epic event to commemorate the its release.
He contacted Warner Brothers and managed to score 100 tickets to a
June 7 screening at an undisclosed location. The crew will gather en
masse, dressed to the nines in period clothes, and ready to watch the
final product.
reports that WB is hoping the film gains a Grease or Rocky Horror
Picture Show-style following, where fans will sing the songs, dress the
part, and go all out in support of Stacee Jaxx and crew. We shall see.
In
the meantime, if you happen to see dozens of '80s-clad metal wannabes
strolling the streets of Miami on June 7 -- well, you know what's up. And feel
free to join them in celebration of this flick's release. After all,
couldn't we all use a little more hairspray and headbanging in our
lives?
