Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado on Ultra 2013: "One Weekend Is Enough, People Complain About the Kids"

As usual, the City of Miami commission meeting convened at 9 a.m. today.

Amid discussion of telecommunication contracts and waste management, our municipal pols will also decide whether vice chairman Marc Sarnoff was correct when he called Ultra Music Festival fans a "urinating, defecating ... throwing up" mob of "kids on some sort of mind-altering drug."

Of course, house music man Tommie Sunshine and Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh are totally against Sarnoff's proposed resolution "disapproving" of Ultra's second weekend.

But the vice chairman has one very prominent ally in his quest to kill Days 4 through 6 of UMF ... Miami mayor Tomás Regalado.

UPDATE The resolution has been voted down. And City of Miami commissioners have approved Ultra Music Festival 2013's second weekend.

Yesterday, the mayor spoke briefly with the Miami Herald, weighing in on the City of Miami vs. Ultra Music Festival 2013.

Now, Regalado's comments were buried near the end of an article about Sarnoff's interest in hiring 100 new officers for the Miami Police Department.

But the mayor had some blunt stuff to say about the EDM wars.

"Personally, I think one weekend is enough," Regalado told the Herald. "We understand that we have to accommodate all festivals, but two weekends with street closures would collapse downtown.

"Plus, people complain about the kids."

Oh, right ... Good point, your honor.
