Thanks to the poetry festival O, Miami, we’re appreciating the written and spoken word in new ways. After a full month of mad words all over the place via O’s billboards, poems falling from the sky, and a near brush with academic wordsmith James Franco, we’re still hungry for more. Thankfully, the interactive Literary Death Match is back for a second round. Tuesday at 9 p.m., four talented writers will battle for the title of LDM winner at Churchill’s Pub. Literary Death Match, a live event created by Opium Magazine in San Francisco, had its Miami debut in April during O, Miami. The Foryoucansee Collective duo of Hialeah Haikus fame won with its funny, Miami-inspired poems after a nail-biting tiebreaker involving musical chairs. This time, after missing the literary smackdown in April, founder Todd Zuniga will host. The night doubles as the release party for the University of Wynwood’s Jai-Alai Magazine #10, so you can arm yourself with some words if the Literary Death Match invades your personal space.
Tue., May 31, 9 p.m., 2011
