Faith and Flag Football

In pop culture, Christianity has always held a stronger connection to football than other religions, if only because the holy day happens to coincide with NFL game day. But we bet there's a fair amount of gridiron daydreaming in temples too, especially whenever the Mo Steel flag football team gathers for worship. The all-Jewish team has won national and international titles, and even dominated a two-day international tournament a day after fasting for Yom Kippur.

Jewish Family Sports Day, held by the Jewish Museum of Florida, invites football fans onto the field to take on the Mo Steel team. Fifteen-year-old Miami resident Joshua Quartin will also be on hand to demonstrate the martial arts skills that have won him 11 world championships, and Billy the Marlin will be kickin’ it with the kids all day long. The fun begins at 10:30 a.m. Family tickets cost $18. RSVP by calling 205-672-5044, ext. 3175.
