Are you a Miranda (a cynical feminist), a Charlotte (a hopeless romantic), or a Samantha (a shameless slut)? Because you’re an actual, breathing human being and not a fictional, one-dimensional female stereotype, you likely don’t identify with any of these Sex and the City characters. You probably think of yourself as a Carrie. And why shouldn’t you? Aside from being self-absorbed, obnoxiously obsessed with puns, and having the fashion sense of a 10-year-old girl who freebases Pixy Stix, Carrie was a pretty cool chick. But was she as cool back in the day when Stanford Blatch claimed she rode the subway in Candie’s? Meet a budding Ms. Bradshaw when she first hit the Big Apple. The real Carrie, Candace Bushnell, will swing by Books & Books this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. She’ll read from her latest, The Carrie Diaries: Summer in the City. A sequel to The Carrie Diaries, which focused on Carrie’s formative teenage years, it tells the story of Carrie’s big-city struggle to become superfabulous all while meeting two of her closest friends: a cynical feminist and a shameless slut. Aw, sounds sweet! And totally not like a ploy to suck money out of impressionable teenage girls and lonely soccer moms with a penchant for girly martinis, right?
