Bunnie Cakes' Vegan Doughnut Milkshake Is the Summertime Treat You Need

Despite popular misconception, the term "vegan milkshake" is not an oxymoron. These creamy treats are just like regular milkshakes — only without the cow's milk and unpleasant digestion issues. 

The frozen desserts aren't easy to find, however, particularly in Miami. But there's a shake shortage in the 305 no longer. Bunnie Cakes, Miami's iconic vegan and gluten-free bakery, now offers vegan milkshakes, just in time to beat the summer heat.

"I love milkshakes; I am obsessed with milkshakes," owner Mariana Cortez says. "My kids love milkshakes, and we can’t get vegan milkshakes anywhere." So she decided to roll them out at her heart-adorned Wynwood location.

The shakes come in seven flavors, but most notable is the doughnut variety, complete with a teeny doughnut sitting on top. The other flavors are vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, green tea matcha, red velvet, and sunflower butter. They cost $12 apiece, and several are gluten-free.

"Initially, I did have like 12 or 15 flavors, but we finalized with seven," Cortez says. "Eventually, we’re going to add more, but we wanted to test if people like the idea, and so far it's been a complete success"

She says the strawberry, red velvet, and doughnut flavors are probably the most popular thus far.

And if you're looking for a savory snack to pair with your sweet indulgence, Bunnie Cakes also offers sandwiches in the grab-and-go case. The staff can heat them in a panini press. "They're delicious," Cortez says of the six options. 

"I usually get a sandwich for lunch, and my husband Seb and I will share a milkshake because they’re so big. Any of the sandwiches with a milkshake is a full meal, and they're so good."
