Miami's Ten Can't-Miss Concerts of the Week

Only "the worst band in America" will pay you to see their show. No, really. Miami's Scraping Teeth was given the title by Spin Magazine back in 1993 during the publication's anti-talent search. Although over two decades have passed, the band — which consists of 305 noise guru, Rat Bastard — is still proud to be the worst. For that, they're rewarding their loyal fans a $1 off drink coupon to see their show at Churchill's this week.

It's been one hell of a year for Electric Piquete. From being named Miami's best Latin band by us here at New Times to being introduced by Willy Chirino during their debut performance at the Hialeah Park Racing and Casino, los rumberos de la Ciudad que Progresa are celebrating the end of a kick-ass 2015 at Woody's West End Tavern.

"Electronic. Booty. Makes you feel a type of way." That's the sound of the Magic City's four-piece electronic band, Kodiak Fur. While the band's music alone definitely makes us feel a type of way, it's Kodiak Fur's live shows that really make the group stand out. "Our live set is just something that changes, and it’s going to change again massively," KF's Christopher Thomas explained to New Times earlier this year. "We’ve got electronic and live elements, and we each switch on and off with a bunch of instruments." Sounds like the 305 will be in for a surprise during their show at PAMM this week.

"I wanted to create something special," Italian-born DJ-producer and label magnate, Marco Carola told New Times just over a year ago about his Music On Ibiza residency. "With my partners, we created Music On around my vision — taking music seriously but having fun with it." Going on its second year in Miami, Music On is strictly "[focused] on the music," but with an extra dosage of fun, of course.

Get ready for a night of "feedback and distortion" as one of Miami's sludge and doom metal pioneers — who dominated the scene in the early '90s — tear up the stage at Churchill's. "I wanted to emphasize rawness, heavy guitars, feedback, and distortion," Cavity's Dan Gorostiaga told New Times earlier this year about the band's inception. "We just wanted to play slower, thicken our guitar sound, and use lots of feedback. That was our initial intention." From his Jingle Ball performance at the BB&T Center in Sunrise to his very own weekend rager at Story Nightclub in South Beach, Zedd's definitely gonna be up all night this Friday. The least you can do is, well, "Stay the Night" with the DJ while he takes his beats from the 954 to the 305.

Hialeah's about to get a taste of reggae and hip-hop this weekend. Catch Bob Marley's grandson, Jo Mersa Marley, and Cuban hip-hop queen, Danay Suarez put on their first-ever gig at the Hialeah Park Race Track's Fountain Terrace. Part of the venue's recently-launched musical series, this week's show will surely appeal to a much younger and diverse crowd.
